The ‘Cortina 80’ as the name implies was introduced in 1980, but was soon to become known as, and still is today, the MkV.


This was Fords’ last  Cortina and although  it closely resembles the Mk1V, the skin panels has changed, the roof had been raised to give more window area, although this did not apply to the estate version.  New rear light cluster, front grille and indicators, various interior changes, and the option of an ‘s - pack’ kit  i.e.

Suspension, wheels and tyres, was also available for most models.  The MkV retained the same engines as The Mk1V, although the b.h.p. Of the engines has been increased.

The price of a MkV saloon was from £3346.00 to £5989.00 new.


The production run of the Cortina 80 (MkV) was approximately 531,850


In July 1982 the last of the 4,431,525 Cortinas came off the production line at Dagenham.

The Carousel

In 1981 Ford introduced the first of its’ two limited edition Cortinas, the Carousel.

All Carousels came in a two-tone colour scheme in 3 combinations, with only 6000 saloons and estates being built.

Ford also offered various options for these cars, i.e. tinted glass, electric aerial etc.

The price of the carousel ranged from £4540.00 for a 1.3 litre

saloon to £5250.00 for a 1.6 litre estate.

The Crusader

In 1982 the Crusader was launched.  This was still classed as a ‘limited edition’ despite the fact that approx 30,000 were built.

The crusader came with 3 engine options, 1.3, 1.6 or 2.0 litre,  pin stripes on the bonnet, body - side decals, wheel rim embellishers, ghia style seats and cut - pile carpets.

The price of the Crusader ranged from £5440.00 for a 1.3 litre saloon to £6645.00 for a 2 litre estate.
