August 8th , Grange Historic Vehicle Day.
The venue for this show in South Cumbria is on the
Memorial Playing Fields at Grange-
This year the show coincided with the Woodvale
Rally weekend so our numbers attending were down
to three, myself, Nev Cooper and Lee Wilson.
I met Nev at Burton in Kendal services for the drive to Grange and shortly after our arrival we were joined by Lee and his family.
After we had parked up it was time for us to check in, collect our programme and then go for our complimentary tea / coffee and biscuits which are provided for all exhibitors.
Next it was time for us to look at the auto jumble and car boot stalls, and then look around the other vehicles on display, which
varied in years from the 1930’s to the late 1980’s which included cars, motorbikes and commercials.
During the course of the day we were entertained by a Dixieland Jazz band and also Country and Western singers.
All exhibitors receive a judging form on arrival and are asked to judge the vehicles
( not their own ) in the various classes for the awards at the end of the show. This
year Lee was voted runner up in our class ‘H’ Future Classics 1980 -
The weather was initially dull on arrival but then the sun broke through after lunch and made for a very pleasant day, at about 5pm we decided to make our way home and on the drive back to Blackpool I had to use my sun visor, something I have not used here in the North West for a long time.
Next years show is on August 11th, so if you are in the area I would recommend that this small friendly show is well worth a visit.

Aug 7/8th Woodvale Rally, Southport
This show is always a must for the North West Group as it never fails to be a fantastic weekend, and this year was no exception. There is always something for everyone at Woodvale, military vehicles, bike stunts, model aircraft displays which go on all weekend. There is a huge fun fair with rides of all description. This year there was a wall of death !!!. There are numerous stalls and tents selling the usual arts and crafts. The weekend ends with a ‘ Dam Busters ‘ display which is certainly worth seeing.
This show is a fine example of what good value for money being a member of the club is, entry fee for the general public was £10.00 each this year, but for club exhibitors only £5.00 per car.
The organisers of the show claim to have had a record turn out this year, and if the packed car parks were anything to go by they will be correct, of course the good weather is always a bonus and this year we were lucky.
This is a two day show and there is camping available, but not everyone attends for
both days and this year the show clashed with another regular show at Grange-
The Judging took place on the Sunday and the places were awarded as follows:-
1st John Ford Mk5 Crusader Saloon
2nd Dave Forber Mk3 Saloon
3rd Phil Hulme Mk 5 Saloon
Anne Dickinson.
